ENCRYPTED CALL RECORDINGS DOC Started: 2015-09-11 Updated: 2020-07-17
NOTE: THIS FEATURE IS OPTIONAL, AND SHOULD ONLY BE ACTIVATED AFTER YOUR SYSTEM
HAS BEEN INSTALLED, CONFIGURED AND TESTED!
DESCRIPTION:
Basically, every person that wants to access call recordings, once "PGP
encrypted recordings" is enabled, will have to have the PGP application
installed on their workstations. They also have to have the PGP private keys
for any files they wish to decrypt imported into the PGP application on their
workstations. They also need to know the "passphrase" for those private PGP
keys in order to decrypt each PGP-encrypted file, and enter in the passphrase
for every recording they want to listen to.
How it works from the VICIdial side is:
1. At the end of the phone call, the call recording is compressed(usually MP3)
as it normally is by each dialer
2. The encryption script(AST_CRON_audio_2_encrypt.pl) goes through the
compressed recordings, encrypting them with the defined PGP public keys
3. The FTP script sends encrypted recordings(with ".pgp" file extension) to
archive server <this step is optional, if configured>
4. Users click on recording links in admin web pages to download recordings
5. PGP application on the user workstation opens up, they are prompted for the
PGP key passphrase, and the enter it
6. The recording plays in an audio player on the workstation
INSTALLATION:
1. Make sure "gpg" is installed on each dialer. For VICIbox installations, you
should be able to do this through "yast" in the Software Management screen
2. Import all of the PGP public keys that you will want to use for the
"recipients" of these PGP-encrypted recordings on each dialer(if you don't
have any, you can create them in the PGP workstation application)
3. You need to manually test encrypting something on each dialer with "gpg" and
ensure that the recipients can open them
4. The next step is to put the new crontab entry in for the
"AST_CRON_audio_2_encrypt.pl" script on each dialer
5. The last step is to modify the crontab audio scripts for "step 3" to use the
"--GPG" flag on each dialer
6. Make test calls and confirm everything is workin on each dialer!

RECOMMENDED WORKSTATION SOFTWARE:
For Windows workstations, we recommend using "Gpg4win"(Kleopatra) to create and
manage your PGP keys, as well as to decrypt any encrypted audio recordings:
